London Falling

Thursday 07/07/2005 5:37 PM

Well unless you've been cut off from the world at large for the last 12 hours, I'm sure you've heard about the subway and bus bombings in London.

For me, the flashbacks come in threes: 9/11. Further back to Oklahoma City. And even though this isn't terrorisim related, further still to Tiananmen Square.

I'm reminded of something Roger Grenier said (in his wonderful book The Difficulty of Being a Dog) about our abuse of our canine friends:

"This is what people did to dogs while waiting to apply the same methods to one another."

Your image of the day is yet another reminder (as if London isn't enough) of the forces in the world that want to do us harm. The t-shirt features the AK-47, an originally Russian-made automatic weapon favored by insurgents and terrorists around the world. If there is a market for such t-shirts in the friendly streets of Prague, imagine the demand in less hospitable places.
