Number Ten for Doyle

Thursday 07/14/2005 11:55 AM

A couple of weeks ago, right after I posted a great quote from Doyle Brunson, he went and won his 10th World Series of Poker bracelet. Here is the press release.

The best part of this story is what he won with. The hand 10-2 offsuit is called the Doyle Brunson because he won his back-to-back World Series championships back in the 70's with 10-2 offsuit in the last hand of each game. For those of you who are poker illiterate and are trying to divine the hidden strengths and advantages of playing 10-2 offsuit, don't strain your brain because there aren't any. 10-2 offsuit is a terrible hand. But just as all it takes is "a chip and a chair" to win a poker tournament, all good poker players know "any two cards can win." And Doyle proved that once again when he took out Minh Ly's K-Q offsuit with 10-3 offsuit. Doyle paired the 3 and Minh got no love from the cards.

Congrats, Doyle!
