Heartbreak

Tuesday 09/06/2005 10:15 AM

Saturday morning, I watched footage on MSNBC of a traumatized dog on the side of a New Orleans freeway who resisted any attempts to comfort it and refused the bowl of water the poor thing undoubtedly needed.

Last nite on the CNN web site, I watched a video of a guy swimming between houses while hanging on to a tire to keep himself afloat. He refused to climb into a rescue boat because he wouldn't leave his dog behind.

Your Link of the Day is a heartbreaking article on CNN about evacuees having to leave their pets behind. Further down the page, is a link to watch a video clip about the Hurricane Katrina database for missing pets. Be sure to check that out as well.

And finally, there is a special PetFinder web site that has been created to help people find their pets they left behind. If you have a PayPal account, why don't you donate to help. Eveybody's giving dollars to the Red Cross (and that's a great thing), but I can guarantee you that the animal rescue groups are working with a tighter budget than the human rescuers. I gave $20, but you can give as little as a buck. And it will make a difference.
