Shawn Pasha II

Wednesday 11/28/2007 3:30 PM

After living in Alaska, but before we moved to Florida in late spring of '76, we lived with my grandparents on The Farm in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I attended first grade at Lake View Elementary in Negaunee.

Every morning, my grandparents' German Shepard, Shawn Pasha II, would walk with me down the hill to catch the bus. Every afternoon he'd be waiting for me to come home. When I stepped out of the bus, I'd hold out my lunchbox for him and he'd take it in his mouth and accompany me up the hill to The Farm. Once we arrived home, he'd tear open my Scooby Doo lunchbox to see what I left him from lunch.

I loved that dog more than life itself.

My bus driver, Robert Rogers, took several pictures of me and Shawn that are among the closest things I have to relics from my childhood. This picture is my favorite and was taken at the foot of the hill.
