The Ten Year Time Limit

Tuesday 07/15/2008 11:05 AM

A couple weeks ago, Alex and I were riding in the car and we were having a good day. I turned to him and said, “You're a pretty cool kid, Alex. It's a shame we're gonna have to eat you next year when you turn ten.”

He looked at me with big eyes and didn't say anything.

“Yeah,” I continued, “It's a family tradition. When the oldest male of each generation turns ten, we eat him for good luck. I'll bet you never heard of Jacob, my older brother. He was a really cool kid too.”

Alex was quiet for the rest of the ride home.
