Newsflash: Common Dog Ticks Spread Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever

Thursday 08/11/2005 3:39 AM

In my best Scooby Doo voice: Ruh-roh, Rhaggy!

From your Link of the Day:

"Scientists have discovered that a very common type of dog tick can spread Rocky Mountain spotted fever, a serious and often fatal illness that reached historic highs in the United States last year."

The good news is that, for the moment, these have only been confirmed in Arizona, but there are suspicions regarding previously unexplained cases of infection throughout the country.

Whenever we would take The Boys to the The Greenway, we'd be doing tick checks for the rest of the afternoon. Sometimes we'd find one of those little seed ticks crawling on our clothes or our arms. Yukky!
